The Kids Are Losing Their Minds ~ Rik Lee

When looking through Rik Lee's website (http://www.rikleeillustration.com)  I saw this typeface that he has created and illustrated. This is the only typeface seen upon his website and one of the rare pieces with the men being used but as well as men there is also also other things that show animals, scenes or objects. I really like this typeface and think it is beautifully illustrated with different illustrations in each.

I think that in some cases the illustrations were thought about for the creating of the letter but in other cases clipping masks would have been used. I think that the first T and H work very well as well as all the I's, the A and E in are and then the L and O in losing work very well. I think that these are the ones that were thought about because they fit into the letter perfectly and even make the letter in their own way especially the T,H,I,A and E.

I like how the colour scheme consists on 3 colours that are repetitive and go nicely together for the darkness is the same with each of the colours and they do not clash nor dull each other out. The illustrations that do not make the letter fit in nicely because you can still see letters and it also looks pretty, I like the people being used in the letters as well as the animals and scenes such as Vegas diner.

Men of Letters & People of Substance

This is the final poster of Men of Letters & People of Substance.

I decided on the use of people making the word men because i feel it gives a visual look to it. The same reason as using objects/substances to create the word people, this is because it communicates something on the page and therefore is effective.

I thought this worked nicely to the side as well as stretched because it looks as though it is suppose to look like it and gives an almost printed feel.

Handmade Type

My Handmade Typeface

In our Typography Project we were given the task of creating our own Alphabet. This had to be placed into a grid and presented neatly on the page. 

We had to pick something to create this Alphabet with and so I decided on sweet wrappers. I thought that twisted roses wrappers would be the best of ideas due to the unique colour that the wrappers bring to the page and it would be more interesting than the wrapper on a page with a letter cut out of it.

I chose a grey background for the fact that it brings the colour out more and makes it look like they shine more. 

The space could have been used more wisely to prevent the letters bumping in to each other and joining but the alphabet has turned out nicely and can be identified.

Typography Dip

Today I got given my task for my Typography project through a lucky dip.

We were to pick a font from the bag, the font we got we would then research into and give our own opinion on them, after all the research is done I will have to create a poster of the good points about the font i had picked in the dip, the font that I got is Eurostile.

We then had to pick 2 more things of which involved a letter and a character although some people would get 2 letters. I was lucky enough to get 2 letters of which are L and P. With this task we need to find something to represent the letter like A is for apple, we need to make a poster like this with something that is not inappropriate but something that is suitable to our age group. We will then illustrate the letter ad character for the poster like for the letter you would have that big in the middle of the page and then something that represents it will be small on the letter.
